What's in a name? Everything. Your name is as
important to your identity as the features on your face and your fingerprints.
It tells the world who you are. A name isn't just a label. Its significance
takes on greater meaning when viewed in context of your culture, religion,
heritage and country of origin.
According to Kabalarian Philosophy, choosing the right name for your newborn
is a very important decision. It is of crucial importance to give your baby a
Balanced Name. In so doing, you are setting in motion a pattern of constructive
qualities of intelligence that will be the foundation of your child's
personality, thinking patterns, and nature. A Balanced Name will provide a
natural outlet for the creative expression and development of your child's inner
purpose as revealed by his or her date of birth. The family name is vital as
well, as it creates an important total name influence when combined with the
first name, that reveals the experiences and degree of success your child will
achieve in life.
Baby naming ceremonies, in one form or another, have a history
practically as old as man. What is new are the original ideas new parents and
celebrants keep coming up with for the traditional baby naming ceremony.
There is no set format for the ceremony, no legally required content
& no documents to be lodged. Each ceremony is created in consultation with
the family & can involve many people. The ceremony can be as creative as you
want.
The following format is a useful guideline
- Music (Optional, not commonly used)
- Welcome & Introduction
- Reading
- Parents' Acknowledgement of Family & Friends
- A Creative Ritual (see below)
- Parents' Promises
- Reading
- Inclusion/mention Grandparents or other important persons.
- Welcoming of Godparents / Guardians / Mentors
- Promises by Godparents / Guardians / Mentors
- Naming, & Meaning of / Reason for Name
- Signing &/or Presentation of Naming Certificate &
Certificates of Appreciation

Naming Rituals
There are various creative rituals you can include
such as:
- The lighting of a naming candle
- Planting of a tree
- Sealing a time capsule
- Releasing of doves or balloons.
Here are some ceremony Tips.
Parental Tips - How do get the best out of a Naming Ceremony
- Think about the promises you wish to make to your child.
- Try to choose promises that have special meaning, and ask the
godparents/guardians/supporting adults/or mentors to do the same.
- Choose their godparents with care. Ideally, they should be people
who the child will see regularly and have a good and positive influence in
their life.
- Being asked to be a godparent is an honour, but it's also a role
that carries responsibilities, so choose the people you ask with care and
talk to them about the promises they feel able to make.
- If you are considering 'guardians/supporting adults/or mentors
instead of godparents, it may be nice to say a few words at the naming as to
why you have chosen them and what role you hope they will play in your
child's life.
- Ask the grandparents if they would like to be involved. They are
likely to be important people in your child's life.
- You can also remember absent family and friends and
mention them in the ceremony.
- You could give a special
gift to the child during the ceremony. It doesn't have to be expensive, but
they should choose something long lasting that they can keep and treasure in
years to come.
- Talk with family and friends about what to include, and ask the
celebrant who'll also be happy to offer you help and advice
- You may want to make a speech, or do a reading from a favorite poem
or piece of prose.
- It's also nice to explain why they have chosen the child's name and
what it means to you.
